Prof. Claudia Lima

Full Professor of Private International Law at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre , Brazil.  Lawyer (UFRGS), she holds a PhD. from Heidelberg University (Germany) , a LL.M. from Tübingen University (Germany) and a Diplom in European Integration (Europa-Institut Saare, Germany). Chair of the Committee on International Protection of Consumers, ILA (International Law Association, London). Director of the DAAD´s Center for German end European Studies UFRGS-PUCRS (CDEA-Porto Alegre). Director of the IACL – International Association of Consumer Law (Brussels), she is former President of ASADIP (Association of Professors of Private International Law of the Americas, Paraguay) and Brasilcon (Brazilian Institute of Consumer Law and Policy, Brasilia). She was General-Rapporteur of the Reform of the Brazilian Consumer Code and has served on or been a consultant to Mercosur, OAS, World Bank and the Brazilian Ministry of Justice on consumer law and antitrust matters and is listed as an arbitrator for Mercosur. She is Vice-Chair of the national Brazilian Bar Association´s Committee on Consumer Protection (OAB, Brasília). She is editor and author of important books in consumer law –Contratos no Código de Defesa do Consumidor (9th ed. 2019). Manual de Direito do Consumidor (with Antônio Benjamin; Leonardo Bessa, 2017), Comentários ao Código de Defesa do Consumidor (with Antônio Benjamin; Bruno Miragem, 6th.ed. 2019), Confiança no Comércio eletrônico e a proteção do consumidor (Brasilcon Award for Best Book on Consumer Law, 2004), O Novo Direito Privado e a Proteção dos Vulneráveis (with Bruno Miragem, Jabuti Award 2013, 2ed. 2014). She has written numerous articles and chapters on contracts, on conflicts of laws and consumer law issues published in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Panamá, Canada, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, UK, Italy, China and Japan.
